Ingredients:

  • 200g (7oz) poppy seeds
  • 200g (7oz) sugar
  • 200g (7oz) butter
  • 6 eggs
  • 200g (7oz) wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • The zest of 1 lemon
  • 100g (3.5oz) dark chocolate
  • 500ml cream 30%
  • 3 tablespoons of powdered sugar

Instructions:

  1. Poppy seeds pour hot water and leave for a few hours, then drain and grind.
  2. Cream the butter with the sugar until fluffy, add the eggs one at a time, beating constantly.
  3. Mix the flour with baking powder and salt, add to the butter mixture.
  4. Add the poppy seeds and lemon zest, mix everything together.
  5. Transfer the mass to a springform pan lined with baking paper and bake in an oven preheated to 180°C for about 1 hour.
  6. After baking the sponge cake, let it cool down and then cut it into 3 equal layers.
  7. Melt the chocolate in a water bath, whip the cream with powdered sugar.
  8. Spread the whipped cream evenly on each top, pour over the chocolate and stack one on top of the other.
