Faworki: The traditional flavor of the carnival

Faworki, also known as chrust, is a traditional Polish dessert, which is associated primarily with the carnival period and Shrovetide. This is the taste of childhood for many Poles, which takes us back in time to the kitchen of our grandmothers and great-grandmothers. Faworki is the quintessence of home baking - modest, but exceptionally tasty and aromatic. Although the ingredients for faworki are simple and easily available, their preparation requires a certain precision and experience. The dough must be rolled out thin enough, and frying until golden requires constant control. But all this is a small effort compared to the reward, which is the taste of freshly fried faworki sprinkled with powdered sugar. Faworki are popular not only in Poland. They are known under various names in many countries of Central and Eastern Europe. However, everywhere they retain their characteristic shape and crunchiness. It is definitely worth trying your hand at baking these delicious cookies at home.

  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 5 yolks
  • 50ml (1.7 fl oz) of spirit

  4. Fry the faworki in hot oil until golden. After frying, drain on a paper towel to get rid of excess fat.
  5. Finally, sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve warm.
