mint Julep is a cocktail with a deeply rooted tradition, undoubtedly associated with the south of the United States, especially with the Kentucky Derby. Its introduction as the official drink of this prestigious horse race in 1938 made it world famous. Its history, however, goes even further back to the 18th century, when 'julep' meant any drink used to deliver medicine. When the colonists brought whiskey to America, they combined it with mint, sugar and water to create a recipe that has survived to this day.
