Tomato sauce for lasagna

Ingredients:
- 2 cans of pelati (about 800g (28oz))
- 1 onion (about 150g (5.3oz))
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (about 30ml (1oz))
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- salt to taste
- pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
Instructions:
- Peel the onion and garlic, then chop them finely.
- In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, frying them until golden and fragrant.
- Add the pelati to the pot. If the tomatoes are large, you can crush them with a spoon into smaller pieces.
- Add sugar, salt, pepper, oregano and basil. Stir to combine everything well, then reduce the heat to low.
- Let the sauce cook for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. After this time, the sauce should thicken and become intense in flavor.
- Now the tomato sauce is ready to be used in lasagna . You can rub it through a strainer if you like to make it smoother, but that's optional.
