Yeast cake with apples: The nostalgic taste of home baking
Yeast cake with apples is a classic of home baking that evokes nostalgia and reminds you of the taste of childhood. It is a delicacy that combines fluffy, slightly sweet yeast dough with sour, juicy apples. This combination, with proper preparation, gives the effect of a delicious, moist cake, which is perfect for dessert, as well as for afternoon tea or breakfast. The key to success is proper preparation of the dough - it must be properly risen to become light and fluffy. It is equally important to use the right apples - the best are sour and juicy ones that will have the right consistency after baking. Although yeast dough may seem complicated to prepare, with the right recipe it is quite a simple process. Below you will find a recipe for this delicious cake, which will show you step by step how to prepare the perfect yeast cake with apples.
- 500g (17.6oz) wheat flour
- 25g (0.88oz) fresh yeast
- 250ml (8.5fl oz) of milk
- 100g (3.5oz) sugar
- 2 eggs
- 100g (3.5oz) butter
- pinch of salt
- 1kg (35.3oz) sour apples
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- Crumble the yeast into a bowl, add a tablespoon of sugar and pour over the warm milk. Set aside for 15 minutes for the yeast to work.
- In a large bowl, add the flour, salt, sugar, eggs and melted butter.
- Add the yeast mixture to the bowl with the remaining ingredients and knead the dough. The dough should be smooth and elastic.
- Cover the bowl with the dough with a cloth and leave it in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, so that the dough doubles in size.
- Meanwhile, peel the apples, cut them into thin slices and mix them with sugar and cinnamon.
- After the dough has risen, roll it out onto a baking tray, put the apples on it and knead the edges of the dough.
- Bake in an oven preheated to 180 degrees C for about 35-40 minutes, until the pastry is golden.
