Dumplings with Strawberries: Delicate Sweet Taste of Summer
When we think about Polish cuisine, dumplings are one of the first dishes that come to mind. These delicious stuffed dumplings are the true heart of Polish cuisine, which can be prepared in many ways, with various stuffings, from traditional cabbage and mushrooms to meat, cheese and fruit. One of the most creative and at the same time the most traditional versions of dumplings are strawberry dumplings. Strawberry dumplings are a delicate, sweet and tempting dish that is especially popular in the strawberry season. They are a perfect example of how diverse Polish cuisine can be. This dish is a real feast for the palate, where a delicate, elastic dough meets an explosion of the sweet taste of ripe strawberries, complemented by a touch of sweet, melted butter and powdered sugar.
- 500g wheat flour (17.6oz)
- 1 egg
- 250ml warm water (8.5fl oz)
- Pinch of salt
- 500g ripe strawberries (17.6oz)
- 50g sugar (1.8oz)
- Additionally: butter to serve, powdered sugar to sprinkle
- Put the flour in a large bowl, add a pinch of salt. Crack the egg and slowly add the warm water, stirring all the time. Knead the dough until it becomes elastic and smooth. Set aside for about 30 minutes, covered with a cloth.
- In the meantime, prepare the stuffing. Wash strawberries, dry and cut into small pieces. Add sugar and mix gently.
- After the dough rests, divide it into two parts. Roll one of them into a thin cake. Cut out circles using a glass or cookie cutter.
- Put a portion of strawberry filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dumplings together, pinch the edges to form a crescent.
- Cook dumplings in salted water over medium heat. When the dumplings float to the surface, cook them for about 2-3 more minutes.
- Fry the dumplings in butter in a pan until slightly crispy. Serve sprinkled with powdered sugar.
